Welcome New Grandparent Leaders!

June 6, 2012

The National Committee of Grandparents for Children’s Rights is proud to welcome the following Grandparent Leaders to our team:

  • Kerrie Bickford, Marston Mills, Massachusetts
  • Gail Gallagher, North Richland Hills, Texas
  • Sara Harper, High Point, North Carolina
  • Kristie Lund, Kent, Washington
  • Angela Magliozzi, Silver Springs, Maryland
  • Gail Mizell, Angleton, Texas
  • Dee Ann Newell, Little Rock, Arkansas

"Grandparent Leaders play a vital role in our grassroots efforts,” said NCGCR Executive Director Gerard Wallace. "We count on them to help grandparents in their community, participate on local and statewide coalitions, and help to inform the work that we do nationally.”

The NCGCR Grandparent Leadership program solicits grandparents to participate as community ambassadors and supports for the 2.7 million children being raised by grandparents nationwide. Once accepted to the program, Grandparent Leaders complete a six-week training course and continuing education throughout the year.

"This is what we’re all about,” said Board President Anne Strozier. "The purpose of our organization is to develop and strengthen local resources, at the grassroots level, to leverage real change for the many families facing the challenges of kinship care.”
